The 16U Girls League will have several minor changes but there will be some impactful changes for the 2024 baseball season; two of which are noted below:
The 16U Girls League has been amended to the 17U Girls Division. Players are 15 -17 years of age in this calendar year. (BNS handbook will be updated and available early March).
Overage players provision has been amended based on need only:
Current Rule: Permitted (3) overage players per roster.
Amended Rule: Teams can apply to BNS for permission to carry up to three (3) overage players. Teams will have to demonstrate one of the following criteria is met for consideration:
• The association has less than twelve (12) registered eligible players and the use of overagers is required for the team to register 12. The team may only apply for permission to carry a number that will bring the roster to 12 (example: an association with nine (9) registered eligible players may apply for three (3) over-agers. An association with ten (10) registered eligible players may apply for two (2) overagers. An association with eleven (11) registered eligible players may apply for one (1) overager.) Associations will be asked to provide proof there are no other registered players in the association that are age eligible, and/or the team did not release age-eligible players during a tryout process. A fourth overager will not be permitted under any circumstance.
• The association does not have an upper age level team of the appropriate age group for identified players to register.
These teams will play in a provincial league governed by Baseball NS.
Home games could be at Robert Lenihan in Bedford or Allen Heights in St. Margaret’s Bay. There will also be away games – Associations who are part of the league change from year to year, but they could be anywhere in the province.
This skill set of this league is currently comparable to house or A baseball.
Teams may compete in district play downs and Provincial tournaments at the house level.
Season will begin the 2nd week of June.
Provincials are determined by Baseball NS and the date is captured in the calendar of events on their website.
